About the Event

In this Action Dialogue, we will:

  • Discuss Critical Race Theory (CRT) and how it is being used as a tool to threaten inclusion, diversity, and equity in our public schools.
  • Bring together educators and school leaders targeted by and countering the racist attacks by anti-CRT groups
  • Share strategies that panelists have used in response to these attacks
  • Brainstorm ways to collaborate with other progressives and civil rights groups to counter the anti-CRT campaigns

Keith Eric Benson (Camden, NJ) - Camden Public School educator, qualitative researcher, and current President of the Camden Education Association (CEA)

Jennifer Lima (North Kingstown, RI) - School Board member who has been targeted by right wing anti-CRT community members

Glenabah Martinez (Alburquerque, NM) - Associate Professor at University of New Mexico Taos/Diné, who works with and writes about Indigenous youth in high schools

Terry Michal (Birmingham, AL) - Employed by the Birmingham American Federation of Teachers and just completed a 4-year term as an elected school board member for Birmingham City Schools

John Petrovic (Tuscaloosa, AL) - Program coordinator for social and cultural studies at The University of Alabama who provides context for the ideology of the CRT backlash at the university-level

Gabriel Tanglao (Trenton, NJ) - Associate Director of the New Jersey Education Association, Human and Civil Rights, Equity and Governance Committee, who has developed a cross-divisional strategic plan to combat the anti-CRT & anti-LGBTQ attacks across the state
